How are textiles/fabrics recycled ?

Textile/fabric recycling is the reprocessing of the non-usable fabric to a usable form. Overall fabric waste has risen sharply due to the expansion of the clothing and textile industries as well as the fast fashion trend among consumers. Globally, the fashion industry pumps out 100 billion garments annually. Yet only 12% of used textiles or clothes are mechanically recycled (cutting or shredding into fibers), and less than 1% is chemically recycled back to reuseable raw materials. 87% of unwanted clothes are thrown and sent to landfills Why should we recycle textile/fabrics? Natural fibers might take several weeks to several years to degrade in landfills. Most of the clothing made of synthetic fibers, comprises of plastic which might take years, or may never totally decompose. These will also emit CO2 and methane gas into the atmosphere when left in landfills and eventually be the cause of environmental deterioration. Types of Textiles waste that can be recycled: Pre-Consumer textile waste and post-consumer textile waste Pre-Consumer Textile Waste: By-products of yarn and fabric manufacture Post-Consumer Textile Waste: Includes garments, vehicle upholstery, carpets, towels, bedding, purses and more Benefits of textile/fabrics recycling Recycling of textile/fabrics waste will recover the re-usable raw materials that can be used as raw materials for creating new clothes and thereby promoting a circular economy. The recycling strategies of upcycling and closed-loop recycling can best conserve resources including raw materials, water and energy while having a minimal negative impact on the environment. Recycling clothes reduces the factors that contribute to climate change because when they are disposed of in landfills, they produce greenhouse gasses. Therefore, recycle your old clothes and give them a second chance. This way we are all doing our bit in supporting a circular economy. How is Plasma Gasification Technique used to Deal with Waste

Plasma Gasification is a new technique that has been recently developed in order to deal with waste keeping in mind the sustainability and profitability goals. A process that involves heating waste with plasma to extreme temperatures and converting it into usable gases like hydrogen. Since this process produces hydrogen, it creates an opportunity for a sustainable fuel source. This process is not widespread yet because it is new with impressive potential. If it were to be adopted soon, it has the potential to replace environmentally hazardous energy production. However, this new method is expensive, but it can also become a source of income by selling off hydrogen. The potential of plasma gasification is yet to be completely explored and can prove to be beneficial for energy-consuming industries. Currently the main sites for this new innovation are set up at Wuhan China, Mihama-Mikata Japan, Tainan City Taiwan and USS Gerald R.

Everyone should start having new mindset. Many people are stuck in the same traditional linear economy cycle instead of trying to fit into the Circular Economy lifestyle that is beneficial for all. Even though there are some claiming that the damage has been done and no amount of effort can fix the mess created, we believe that it can be decreased to such a level that will effectively make the world more sustainable for generations to come. Join hands with us as we promote the Circular Economy approach to make that all-important difference. Looking for the right solution to handle your waste management? Metal Recycling | Recycling Services in Dubai

Recycling can vary from material to material and from technology to technology, but here is a general overview. Metals can be recycled repeatedly without losing their properties. American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) data reveal that steel is the world’s most recycled material. Aside from gold and copper, other highly recycled metals include aluminium, copper, silver, brass, and silver.

Recycling metals repeatedly without degrading their properties make valuable material. People collect scrap metal to sell to recycling operations because scrap metal has value.

The recycling of metals enables us to preserve natural resources while requiring less energy to process than the manufacture of new products using virgin raw materials. In general, metals can be classified as ferrous or non-ferrous. Metals containing iron and carbon are called ferrous metals. Steel, alloy steel, wrought iron, and cast iron are among the common ferrous metals.

How Is E-Waste Recycled? | E waste in Dubai

In the past few decades, the world has altogether experienced a boom in e-waste generation. All due to the growing demand for advanced technology and the latest equipment such as laptops, mobiles, flat-screen televisions, etc. These items are valuable, which is why they are hardly discarded unless they become obsolete. Once they become useless, users casually discard the item. But are they aware of what that e-waste is capable of? Do they know if carelessly discarding it is safe? Once e-waste ends up at the landfills, it is most probably incinerated, causing GHG emissions to rise at hazardous levels. If only people knew that e-waste recycling is valuable, the e-waste recycling industry would have a lot more to contribute to the global economy.

However, e-waste recycling is a long, tiresome task as it involves an extensive sorting process. After that, the segregated waste is respectively recycled and converted into a whole new raw material. Nevertheless, not all e-waste is being recycled. Experts have estimated that only 12.5% of the total e-waste is recycled in the U.S only. Therefore, many startups like YFC are developing cutting-edge technologies to collect waste from around their operational vicinity and then recycle them as appropriate. Today, in this blog we are going to expound upon how the e-waste industry is growing into an opportunity and can potentially aid the zero-waste agenda through various recycling practices.

E-waste recycling is an extensive process that involves careful sorting and segregating the waste into different categories. And, since each device consists of plastics, glass, metals, or harmful chemicals, the workforce operates in a supervised environment to ensure the safety of all. Once all the devices are sorted into different categories, they are disassembled and respectively distributed to their category for further recycling. From there, the waste is shredded into tiny pieces to be converted into raw material. This raw material is then used for manufacturing other valuable products.

Key Benefits of Waste Management Solutions

If you have been running operations in the UAE, you might have noticed that all industrial processes produce waste. The amount of waste produced here according to a recent study in 2019 took the total to almost 5 Million tons of waste. Even though most of the waste is reusable and recyclable, it still gets dumped out in landfills causing problems not only for the community but for the whole world. I am sure everyone of you reading this blog is aware of the harmful effects of improper waste management so I will not get into that. Instead, I will tell you about some of the key benefits of Waste Management Solutions:

  • Saving Environmental Resources: Here are some interesting stats for you. Recycling just one ton of steel can give you the same result and materials as mining 1400 pounds of coal and 2500 pounds of iron ore. Scrap metal recycling also reduces energy consumption of producing new metal products by 60-70%. Metals such as Aluminum can be reused repeatedly without any significant damage to the material. Not only that but manufacturing new raw materials is a leading cause of greenhouse gases. Manufacturers know how much energy and effort it takes into making new raw materials. So, if the end result is the same with recycling, wouldn’t the better solution be to move towards it? The earth’s natural resources are already depleted as it is and with increasing production due to increasing demand, there is not much time left before they finish for good. Not unless companies move towards Recycling which will effectively reduce the need to use natural resources to make new materials.
  • Increasing the Value of your company: Look at it this way, No one wants to increase pollution in the world. No company wants to be a contributor to destroying the environment and businesses have been trying to align themselves with some sort of environmental initiative for a long time now. Regardless of what the business objective is, every company needs investors, customers, clients and stakeholders. All of which would rather be with a company known for its eco friendliness rather than its waste production. If your company has some sort of zero waste program or recycling solution, then the value of your company will automatically increase and open the door for new business opportunities. If you are interested in knowing about such initiatives, look at this Zero Waste Solution here. Besides certifications and special programs that your company will be eligible for, such a direction can put your company in a positive limelight for a very long time.

Why Recycling is Good for the Economy? | Recycling Companies in UAE

If you’re a recycling nay-sayer, then this blog is for you

Around 14 percent of people are either ambivalent about or downright against recycling. The myth they believe is that it is not their responsibility and recycling doesn’t make any difference

Seriously, who even cares?

If you fall into one of these categories, that’s okay. We’re not judging. The fact that you’re here is fine. It means you want us to convince you that recycling is worthwhile. So here is a big reason why you should start recycling.

Good for the economy

Recycling creates employment opportunities. In the U.Sthe employment potential is about  2.39 – 4.05 jobs per 1,000 tonnes of diverted waste. For our Canadian friends, that’s something like 5 job opportunities per 1,000 tonnes of diverted waste.

It also generates revenue. In California alone, a state with robust collection infrastructure, recycling and reuse facilities gross $14.2 billion in annual revenue. Due to recycling, there are efficiency gains in manufacturing. Manufacturing with recycled aluminium cans, for example, takes 95% less energy than going straight to the source.

So, it’s good for the economy, too.

E waste in Dubai

Although recycling e-waste is not hard, many individuals end up discarding their electronic waste in the trash. From there it will end up at the landfills, becoming a major contributor to GHG emissions. That’s how e-waste becomes a problem, causing global warming. Such is the missed opportunity of extracting more out of your e-waste. If e-waste is carefully recycled, it becomes a great opportunity to build a raw material that can be used to manufacture new products: creating business opportunities and reducing the burden on the landfills. Either way, it brings each electronic device’s utility to a complete full circle, bringing the circular economy to life. Many businesses have been established by capitalizing on a growing problem by turning it into an opportunity. Therefore, recycling e-waste can become an opportunity if you act upon it now! Otherwise, it’s only going to add up to the stack of already existing problems.

Saving The Planet With E-Waste Recycling

E-waste recycling reduces environmental pollution and can potentially save the planet. And since e-waste consists of toxic substances, it cannot be carelessly discarded in the trash. These toxic substances include mercury, lead, cadmium, beryllium, chromium, and chemical flame retardants. This is why, when e-waste ends up at the landfills, these chemicals can seep into the soil or the atmosphere, and pollute the soil and air. When the soil is polluted, the possibility of it compromising the groundwater becomes inevitable. And the polluted groundwater means that it is affecting life on earth. Therefore, removing e-waste from landfills is as important as saving the planet.

Conclusion

We cannot stop tech from evolving, however, we can control how we discard our e-waste. According to research, it was estimated that in 2019, 54 million metric tons of e-waste was produced worldwide. This number has only been increasing annually as almost only 20% of it is documented, collected, and recycled. Moreover, the way the electronic devices are becoming obsolete with an updated version every once or twice a year, the e-waste will grow. If all e-waste is recycled, it can grow opportunities for businesses to collect e-waste and recycle it into raw material. YES Full Circle offers cutting-edge technology to help you track your waste as we recycle it and also aids the environment by replacing natural resource consumption with recycled raw materials making it more sustainable and economical. What are a few ways we can go plastic-free during travel?

Ensure your toiletries are sustainable.

One of the major problems while traveling is that the toiletries that you use would mostly be made of plastics. How often have you bought miniature sachets and tubes of toothpaste, shampoos, conditioners, and portable deodorants for easy travel? Many of us do that and prefer it because you can throw it easily once the trip is over. However, imagine about 1 million people doing it every day and the waste generated just sums up to a staggering amount with this practice.

You can eliminate this aspect during travel. There are various sustainable alternatives to plastic toiletries during travel. Here is a list of the necessities you would carry and their environmentally friendly alternatives.

  1. Toothpaste:
While toothpaste is really handy, there are sustainable alternatives to this in the form of tooth powder that comes in reusable bottles. You can also purchase zero-waste tooth tablets. These are self-foaming tooth tablets that you pop in your mouth with a bit of water such that it foams. One pill per brushing session would be ample and this is extremely handy too.

Then you can brush using your toothbrush and clean your teeth. This comes packed in glass bottles that you can reuse and causes no waste. It won’t leak or spill in your bag and is actually more convenient. All you have to do is carry this small bottle around and at the end of your travels, you can reuse the bottle or recycle it. Glass Recycling is often used for these small bottles and is sustainable.

  1. Shampoo and Conditioners:
Companies have often advertised these bottles in extremely attractive shapes and colors. They now advertise miniature versions of the same thing for travel and people flock to buy the same! However, while it may seem convenient and cool for you to buy this, this generates so much plastic waste. People may say plastics recycling works here, it actually doesn’t. Again, you’d have issues with it spilling and leaking.

For travel purposes, rather than buying bottles, the more sustainable purchase that could be made is buying shampoo bars and conditioning bars. These last longer than bottles, are convenient to carry, and are more compact than bottles. Hence, it is an ideal carry item during travel. You can store it in a tin box and use it whenever needed.

  1. Deodorant
This is a must-have as you never know when you’d have access to good bathing facilities during travel. However, the negative impacts of deos are quite numerous. The plastic nozzles, the encasings, the harmful aerosols that affect the environment all make it contribute to the ever-growing waste in the community.

Like shampoo and conditioner bars, there are deo bars that are long-lasting, compact, and can be stored conveniently in tin containers. This would reduce your waste generation during travel

  1. Sustainable make-up items and hygiene products.
Switching to biodegradable cotton swabs, washable makeup removing cloth pads, and avoiding the use of plastic cotton swabs would be extremely helpful.

A majority of them have also now switched from using plastic pads to washable menstrual pads or menstrual cups. This cuts down a huge chunk of waste generated and benefits the world. While traveling, in case you do not find segregated waste bins, you can dispose of these without much guilt. This would not have been the case if you had plastics, hence this step is necessary and important.

Also, if you stay in hotels or lodges, opt out of the mini toiletries that they provide. They use a lot of plastic and avoiding their use helps in cutting back demand. If even out of 50,000 people, 3000 people did this, a huge amount of waste produced would be eliminated. Buying makeup should be kept in mind with cosmetics recycling principles.

Our Solutions are achieving the Global UNSDGs | E waste in Dubai

It’s always tough to talk about problems and even tougher to talk  about solving them. In this day and age, Mankind has evolved a lot from  its early status into becoming self-aware of the problems and has even  found ways to overcome them. With continuous development and advancement  in technology, we humans have conquered every issue we have ever faced.  There is a product for every need, an item for every situation, and  these days, an app for every idea but has there been no consequence?  Unfortunately, the answer is a depressing one. Even though we have  accomplished a lot, we have done it at a cost. That cost being, damaging  the world we live in.

You would have probably heard of major world issues such as Climate  Change, Pollution, and Loss of Biodiversity which are very common  nowadays. The reason being that even though we are advancing in  developing our countries, we have neglected mother nature and have taken  it for granted. Using up the resources, we have left the waste product  unattended and that has begun to take its toll on us now. ‘Improper  Waste Management’ as it has been termed causes a lot of harmful effects,  not only to our environment but also to the animal, marine, and human  life.

The UNSDG’s:

The Global Goals or the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed  by the United Nations are objectives that are interlinked with each  other to achieve a much better future through sustainability for all.  There are 17 broad goals in total, each having 8-12 targets with 4  indicators to measure the progress of each goal. There has been a lot of  work towards the fulfillment of the UNSDG’s and many governments and  organizations are working towards the completion of the goals. The main  concern of the United Nations when devising these goals was the concept  of “No one getting left behind”. Alongside making the world a better  place, the UNSDG’s can be taken as a blueprint to achieve a more  sustainable future for all by 2030 which coincidentally is its mission  statement as well. These goals are the closest we can plan towards  solving those issues mentioned above. It will not be a complete reset  but it will help a lot. Most of the goals can be achieved by effective  planning, utilizing the latest technology, and collaboration of related  stakeholders. These goals were devised in 2015 and set for completion by  2030 and we are proud to announce that we have already started working  towards achieving certain UNSDG goals.

Life Below Water | Specialized Waste Recycling

Due to poor waste management, the oceans are flooded with industrial waste as well as post-consumer waste materials. The life below water has been compromised at an alarming level which is causing a major impact on the marine ecosystem. In the past couple of years, injured marine animals are washing up on the shores with plastic waste stuck to their gills, choking them to death. Meanwhile, scientists have found minute plastic pieces from the bodies of aquatic animals. These are just a few cases that have emerged before us, otherwise, there must be countless compromised marine life that we do not know about. It is up to us to protect the life below water and it is only going to be possible when we start managing our waste rather than perceiving the ocean as our waste disposal pit. Plastic Recycling is an easy and convenient solution with immense rewards. Remember, we are not getting rid of our waste if we carelessly throw it away, that waste is going to come back to haunt us as global warming. We at YFC make sure to manage industrial waste as well as post-consumer waste materials with our circular economy solutions, thus protecting the life below water. Returning The Empty Bottles To The Companies To Recycle | Plastic Recycling in Dubai

Another very effective way of recycling is returning the empty bottles to the companies so that they can recycle the no-longer-needed bottles and stop them from being dumped in the waste. The Terracycle corporations are known for this immensely. Started 15 years ago in the USA, their reach is now around in almost 20 countries of the world. They specialize in bringing back the non-biodegradable wastes and then recycling them.

Cosmetic companies have started campaigns so that more and more of their consumers can participate in recycling. L’Oreal in Australia has free of charge designated stores where one can go to dispose of their empty containers without the compulsion of having to buy anything else. Their contribution is stamped and after getting a minimum of 6 stamps, they are given a complimentary shower gel. Garnier not only takes back products from their line but from every brand and then sorts it out in categories which are then further made into new L’Oreal bottles.

Many companies that specialize in deodorant manufacturing take back empty bottles and then recycle the aluminium. Companies like Henkel started campaigns that took back these deodorant bottles and used them to make children’s gyms, to name one of many. There are other companies as well like Unilever who recycled the aluminium and used it to produce bikes for children with the help of charitable institutions.

Another one in line would be the very popular luxury cosmetic brand Estée Lauder who gives its consumers the option of returning their empty packaging after use. And after they have returned up to 6 such, they are rewarded with a free eye shadow. They don’t themselves recycle the packaging but further passes on to other companies to do it for them.

One more in the line would be an Australian company Ringana. They went a slightly different way by asking their customers to pre-clean the used bottles and post them back to the company. If they could do it with a minimum of 10 bottles, then they would be given a free cosmetic product as a gift. And that product can be of their own choice! The company then uses these same bottles to refill and repackage in an environmentally friendly way.

Why go plastic-free? | Recycling Companies in UAE

Going plastic-free is extremely important right now. The world has already seen enough clutter and plastic production and it is just not stopping. That is our first clue: why doesn’t the production stop? This is because the demand is high and constant. Tackling the demand issue is key to solving the whole problem of excessive plastic. Consumer excesses together with continual bombarding of advertisements to buy are driving demand.

We know plastics can be extremely convenient thanks to their versatile benefits and properties. The one time they come very handy has to be during traveling. While traveling, we would want easy-to-use and disposable plastics that add convenience to the journey. However, this just adds to the ever-growing stockpile of plastic wastes on our planet.

In fact, Australia has been the pioneer for a movement called Plastic-Free July. The foundation initially operated from Australia but now is reputed almost globally. It focused on rallying people to take steps to prevent plastic waste generation. Also, July is the month people often travel, visit beaches and exotic places due to the summers. Hence, the amount of waste generated can be cumbersome. Single-use plastics actually lie at the heart of the problem and this can be bypassed by a few baby steps in the right direction.

The YFC Take on Circular Economy

In this fast-moving world, there are a lot of things to consider for the average business. One of the more important things to think about is the implications of the business on the environment. Think of big brands such as Coca Cola and Pepsi who received such major backlash when their plastic bottles started showing up in the oceans and suddenly, the popularity of these brands dropped so fast that they had to change their whole manufacturing strategy. Even though some companies are now taking care to not be the cause of harming the environment, most businesses still do not know how to implement proper waste management. For these businesses, Y.E.S Full Circle Solutions has come up with the best solution to solve this issue using the concept of Circular Economy.

What is Circular Economy:

To know what circular economy is, we have to take a step back and first learn what linear economy is. In most organizations and manufacturing plants, the process of linear economy is followed in production. This process has the following steps; Raw material are collected, transformed into products, used or sold and finally discarded as waste.

Circular economy however on the other hand can be classified as an Economic System aimed at eliminating waste instead of just dumping it at the end of its lifecycle. Instead of getting rid of waste at the end, Circular Economy takes that waste and reuses it to make new products through recycling. So instead of getting waste at the end, Circular economy will work towards ending waste!

Importance of Circular Economy:

The biggest problem that Circular Economy would solve is to reduce stress on the environment. It is no secret that pollution is a huge issue in the United Arab Emirates and without proper waste management in the UAE, things are only going to get worse. Implementing this structure in organizations will definitely bring about a substantial change. So much so that almost every single company is looking into this concept. Besides eliminating waste, Circular Economy can reduce stress on raw materials, boost economic growth and bring about sustainability.

Goal #6 — Clean Water and Sanitation:

We all know the devastating effects caused by unclean water especially to the health of those living in the lesser developed areas. Waste finds its way into water bodies and the same water bodies are sources for those humans to drink from. We must understand that clean water is not available for everyone since not everyone can afford filtered water but what we can do is make an effort in cleaning the water that goes into those areas. Many companies have devised machines and filters capable of cleaning all bacteria and other substances from water but that is not solving the whole issue. To get rid of the problem at the source, we must eradicate pollution at the start which is present because of improper waste management. Y.E.S Full Circle ensures that factories and industries properly recycle their waste which will lead to a major reduction in illegal dumping, hence decreasing water pollution. With everyone following the circular economy practice of reusing their waste instead of dumping it in water, we might be able to make this change and clean

Circular Economy Trends of 2020

“The world is changing. It is changing so rapidly that if we do not take the chance to make the right decisions, the consequences will be dire.”

The past year has been a challenging year for all and despite that, the world could barely standstill. With a pandemic on our head, we already had our hands full with climate change and yet, businesses found a way to operate. During lockdown around the world, organizations discovered an unusual yet functional way of operating remotely with zero impact on their strategies to deploy a circular economy model.

Currently, we are facing climate change that is a direct threat to humanity. International cooperation committees have joined their hands in funding and devising solutions that can power climate action plans to promote a more sustainable life for the generations to come. There have been many solutions, many executed, and many still under process. Everyone’s efforts are going to create an impact to combat climate change and to make that conceivable and efficient, a circular economy model needs to be adopted by industry leaders to promote greener solutions.

Current Position

Many industry giants are onboard building green solutions and encouraging the practice in their respective sectors by supporting government policies. When the legislators are facilitating the businesses to opt for green solutions, the chances are that the business would follow through with anything that saves their costs without degrading their brand.

Another important observation is that people are individually willing to achieve zero waste with composting habits and buying recyclable or recycled goods. Given that individual interest has increased, the businesses are more than likely to align their goals and operations keeping the circular economy model in the center of it all. According to the Science-Based Initiative, over 1,000 companies have committed to set emissions reduction targets based on science, and more than 340 have committed to set net-zero targets across their operations and value chains. The net-zero targets align with limiting warming to 1.5 degrees C (2.7 degrees F).

The awareness amongst the stakeholders of all the industries has risen ever since the governments have aligned their goals for climate action. In 2020, a pandemic triggered a rapid global response which indicates that fighting climate change is only within the hands of companies like YFC and others that are operating with a purpose to reduce global emissions and stop the impact of climate change.

Let’s delve further into these significant trends in the Circular Economy sphere that were observed in 2020 in different industries!

Zero waste cities are bringing circular economy solutions to life

The idea behind zero-waste cities has been traveling around the world to promote a circular economy lifestyle. It involves a consistent joint effort, on a national & community level, to achieve such a shift in lifestyle. There are companies and non-profit organizations that are working day and night to spread awareness amongst communities regarding climate change. The need for sustainable green solutions and climate-friendly lifestyles has only grown by the day as the waste we produce is growing with it. Now, either we pollute and compromise the only planet that has life on earth or we try and do our best to save it. To do that, experts have come up with a circular economy framework that eliminates the factors causing climate change. Based on this framework, an idea emerged for zero-waste cities. To this date, it is considered as the highest ambition of the Paris Agreement.

What Is A Zero-Waste City?

The highest ambition of the Paris Agreement is zero-waste cities and it encompasses the idea that the sustainable and habitable cities of the future will ultimately need to be zero-waste cities. As the name suggests, it promotes the idea amongst the individuals to manage their waste by reusing, recycling, and reducing it to ultimately reach a point where they are not producing any waste. A zero-waste city model comprises individuals practicing a zero-waste lifestyle. Making everyday decisions that encourage consumption of materials that are sustainable and pose no threat to the environment. Every single person who is producing waste will adopt a smart and sustainable way of life to generate less to zero waste on an individual level. When there is no waste, there will be less burden on earth to deal with that waste. That is how zero-waste cities can combat climate change and effectively diminish GHG emissions globally for a clean and green future.

What Is The Potential Of A Zero-Waste City?

Sustaining a zero-waste city is quite ambitious, but it is not impossible. Currently, 2 billion metric tons of municipal solid waste are produced annually worldwide and the World Bank is estimating this figure to increase to 3 billion metric tons by 2050. Out of all that waste, 13.5% of it is recycled and 5.5% is composted. The remaining waste gets incinerated, dumped in the landfills or the oceans. This waste adds up to the global GHG emissions globally and it is estimated that the waste sector accounts for 10 to 15 % of the global GHG emissions. To stop that, individuals around the world and the countries who are facing first-hand effects of climate change are making an effort to change their lifestyle and make more sustainable decisions. An environment-conscious effort is bringing leaders and experts together to chalk out strategies to start developing zero-waste cities. With each step being crucial for this goal, many cities have successfully managed to call themselves a zero-waste city. With various technologies and advanced equipment at our disposal, it has become more convenient to become a zero-waste city. Moreover, biodegradable goods, packaging, and raw materials are easily available for users to make sustainable decisions.

Furthermore, bringing producers to accountability will also open doors for the production of sustainable goods and encourage waste management and utilization at the industrial level. Since much of the industrial waste ends up in the oceans it compromises marine life, causing a huge impact upon the ecological pyramid. Therefore, in a zero-waste city, industries will be producing waste that is either reusable or recyclable.

Managing industrial waste will be a crucial part of it all and YFC provides just that! It crucially deals with sustainably managing your waste Read more about it here.

Why Do We Need To Advance Towards Zero-Waste Cities?

The future depends upon what we do today to stop climate change. With so many technical conveniences, waste management could not have been easier than expected. Moreover, it is one of the primary services that city governments provide and is a sector over which leaders exercise significant authority. The leaders of the world’s great cities recognize that the bold action of waste management is key to making our urban centers cleaner, sustainable, more resilient, and inclusive. Building upon that, zero-waste cities are more than possible today and it is the right time to move towards such a circular economy solution.

Zero Waste Cities Around The World!

Although it takes years’ worth of effort to become a city with no waste, Sweden has nearly reached zero-waste levels after an impressive recycling revolution. Along with that, other 23 global cities have pledged to advance towards zero-waste. These cities include Auckland, Catalonia, Copenhagen, Dubai, London, Milan, Montreal, Navarra, New York City, Newburyport, Paris, Philadelphia, Portland, Rotterdam, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Monica, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Toronto, Vancouver & Washington D.C. The pledge concludes that by 2030 these countries shall reduce the amount of waste generated by each citizen to 15%, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and incineration by 50% and increase the diversion rate to 70%. It is estimated that 87million tons of waste disposal will be avoided by 2030 if all these cities come through. With that, other cities will have to get on board with eliminating their waste by reusing, recycling, and reducing it. YFC has also taken the initiative to provide solutions for cities moving towards Zero Waste with Noida city in India the latest to undergo the project.

Conclusion

The zero-waste city is the one solution that is helping us fight climate change. By decreasing the GHG emissions on a global level, we are sure to achieve a sustainable means of life and securing the planet for future generations. Because if we continue to live as we do, there are high chances that our future generations will not have much to look forward to.
